Read receipts: what we show and what we don't.
Chat threads have small, surface-appropriate read signals. Invites and event pages have none. The line is drawn on purpose.
In your household chat: on messages you send, a tiny row of household avatars appears under the bubble — one for each housemate who has opened the thread since you sent it. A double tick joins them once everyone else has read. No timestamps, no "Seen by Alex 3:42 PM."
In a family-to-family chat (two households) and in 1:1 direct messages or Us 💛: a single tick when delivered, a double tick when at least one other side has opened the thread. We don't say who or when — just that someone on the other end has seen it.
In circle chats (three or more families): no per-message ticks. A small "Seen by all" line appears under your most recent message once every member has opened the thread — and only then. Per-message ticks in a group create a "waiting on me" feeling that doesn't belong in friend-of-friend spaces.
On invites and event pages: nothing. We don't tell the host whether you opened the invite, viewed the event, or hovered on RSVP. They see what you chose to do — accept, maybe, decline, or stay quiet — and nothing else.
Kid-mode: no ticks of any kind, anywhere.
You're in control. Settings → Notifications → "Show read ticks" turns the whole system off for you. It's symmetric: when you turn it off you stop seeing ticks on your outgoing messages, and others stop seeing you as a reader on theirs. There are no streaks, no nudges, and silence is always a valid answer.
